Congratulations to our Spelling Bee Champions!
On Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Xavier High School the
Third Annual CMC Adult Spelling Bee sponsored by Cedar
Rapids Toyota Scion awarded the winning team from The
Gazette the coveted "bee" trophy. The Gazette team
spelled their way though numerous rounds to led them to the
top of the 11 teams in the competition. The spelling
team from Shuttleworth & Ingersoll put up quite a fight and
landed in the runner-up position after misspelling cerci.
Our food pantry at the Center received many food donations
from our spectators and overall the event raised more than
$7,700 for the Center's programs! We would like to
thank all our volunteers, spellers, spectators and committee
members for all your hard work that allowed the Bee to
become a success.
PineNeedles Open House/Quilt Sale
Jill Riecks from PineNeedles moved her business to
a new location and as part of her open house to celebrate
the move, she held a one day sale to benefit the Catherine
McAuley Center. Over 400 quilts were available to
purchase and the Center raised approximately $3,800!
In addition, another $1,400 in pins and tea sales were made
at the new location.
